WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE: THREES

The Bells of San Luis Obispo

San Luis Obispo Mission de Tolosa
was founded on September 1st, 1772
by Father Juniperro Serra. It was the
fifth church built among the 21
Spanish missions established along
the California “El Camino Real” with the laborious help of the Chumash
natives .

These cast iron mission bells are
prominently displayed in the gardens
of the mission. There are three
bells suspended from an alcove on
the facade of the mission church as
well. The parish remains at present,
a well-known landmark in downtown
San Luis Obispo.
